A.B. Simpson - "If we would abide in Christ we must remember that Christ has undertaken not only the emergencies of life, but everything; and so we must cultivate the habit of constant dependence on Him; falling back on Him and finding Him everywhere; recognizing that He has undertaken the business of our life, and there is not a difficulty that comes up, but He will carry us through if we let Him have His way, and just trust Him."

Jill Carattini - "Making the straight line to the one who harmed you is not a move without difficulty, but it is a move with possibility. Jesus instructed his followers to forgive enemies, to love neighbors, and to confront each other privately and directly. He placed before them far more than stoic commands intended for the sake of the other party, but grace and life itself for the one holding on to the consequences as well.

. . .The direct path to the one who harmed you offers the chance for resolution and the possibility of release. It is a move that chooses to see neighbors rather than opponents and relationships rather than winning, a move that remembers even enemies are made in God's image, a move that holds forgiveness as a possibility even when it isn't fully sought. It is precisely the same move Christ went all the way to the Cross to make for you."

John MacDuff - "He has set bounds to our trials. The rivers and streams will purify -- but not overflow or overwhelm! The fires will refine -- but not scorch or burn! He has too deep an interest in those of whom He says, "I have called you by your name -- you are Mine!" to allow our afflictions to go further than He sees to be absolutely needful."

John MacDuff - ""I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go; I will guide you with My eye." -- Psalm 32:8
No more precious assurance can I have, than this -- that I am under the constant, loving guidance of my heavenly Father -- that He appoints the bounds of my habitation, and overrules all events for my good -- that my whole life is a plan arranged by Him. Every apparent little contingency, as well as every momentous turn and crisis-hour -- forms part of that plan! "God examines every path a man takes." "A man's heart devises his way -- but the Lord directs his steps.""

J.B. Phillips - "It has been said by several modern psychologists that it is not the outward storms and stresses of life that defeat and disrupt personality, but its inner conflicts and miseries. So most men had rather live like Balaam--but "die the death of the righteous!" They wish to have the worldling's ease--but the godly man's end. But this is certain, no man shall go to God in death--unless he draws near to God in life. If the kingdom of God is not first in us--we shall never enter into the kingdom of God. None shall enter heaven hereafter--but those that walk in heaven here on earth. None shall enter the gates of felicity--but those who tread the narrow paths of piety. Yet our trust is only in God up to a certain point, then we turn back to the elementary panic-stricken prayers of those people who do not even know God. Tony Evans - "If there is no sowing of seeds, there can be no expectation of harvest. There are many Christians who want a great harvest from God, but they have sown very few seeds for God. 2 Corinthians 9:6 says: "He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." Your harvest depends on what you sow. If you plant potatoes, potatoes will grow. To plant the flesh means you will simply live to gratify yourself. But to plant the Spirit is to live for the glory of God."

God shows us we can do it, regardless of our iniquities, because He has forgiven our iniquities. He never gives up on us, so we should not give up on ourselves, and just keep on seeking to know Him and hear Him and follow Him. His love and strength are constant for all who will put themselves in the crook of his arm about us. "

We now receive much from Him, and we often enjoy His love; but we want to be present with Him, and to have full possession of Him as our everlasting All! He is set before us as our mark; He is held out as the prize; and is promised as the everlasting portion of every overcomer!

Greg Laurie - "There is a difference between doubt and unbelief. Doubt is a matter of the mind. Unbelief is a matter of the heart. Doubt is when we cannot understand what God is doing and why He is doing it. Unbelief is when we refuse to believe God's Word and do what He tells us to do. We must not confuse the two."

A.W. Tozer - "It is entirely possible to reach a place in grace where nothing can panic us. We can have an understanding with God about our yesterdays, our today and our tomorrows. The fear of death and judgment goes out of us as the true fear of God comes in, and that fear has no torment but is rather a light and easy yoke for the soul, one which rests us instead of exhausting us."

A.W. Tozer - "Through the blood of the everlasting covenant we are as safe here on earth as if we were already in heaven. We have not passed beyond the possibility of physical death, but we have entered a sphere of life where we can afford to die, knowing that for the Christian death is a bright portal to the ineffable glory."

Arthur Joyce - "Philippians 4:11-12, 'I've learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.' A contented person allows God the privilege of using the very circumstances that give him the most grief to bring about the image of Christ within him."

Selah Subscriber - "The days of our lives are not so sure as we would like to think. They are of very limited duration. Even the children we see today will soon begin to wrinkle and stoop from the weight of a few decades. That which does stand untouched by time is God alone. His eternal decrees, His all-powerful grace, His unending mercy, His undying love for His wayward children.
Thank you Father for this glorious day! May its imprint be established in my heart and mind to remind me of whose I am and what it is I am to be."

Arthur Joyce - "There are those of us who feel the breeze (gale?) of time whizzing by us. The things that once occupied our time have lost their stature and we realize that we will soon be with our Lord, and we are haunted by the knowledge that there are many things that are yet undone.
One of our great presidents said, "the world will little note nor long remember what we say here." But in a larger sense we speak and act not for earthly recognition but to hear our Master and God say to us, "Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful . . . ."
The Apostle Paul said near the end of his life, "I have finished the course. . . I have kept the faith!" May each of us "finish well!" And we can, as we keep our eyes upon Jesus so that the main thing stays the main thing!"
